At one point in my life I called this easy homemade salsa “Texas Rangers Salsa.” For 5 years I worked in the front office for the Texas Rangers Baseball Club. A coworker brought homemade salsa to a day game watching party. It was SO delish! I begged for the recipe and she finally handed it over. I couldn’t believe how simple it was. I tweaked it a bit 17 years ago when I got the recipe and now it’s a staple for me.
This easy homemade salsa is so simple yet so delicious and full of flavor. If you can keep it away from the mouths in your house, it will get better as the days go by!

This salsa is simple but full of flavor. So easy but so delicious.
- 2 14.5 oz cans whole tomatoes** (drained - Make sure to reserve juices!)
- 1/2 cup onion, chopped
- 1/2 cup jalapeno, seeded and chopped (about 3-4 jalapeno)
- 3 tbsp fresh cilantro (3 big pinches)
- 1/8 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2/3 cup reserved tomato juice
- 1 tsp white sugar
Put all ingredients (except sugar) in blender.
Puree until well mixed. If it is too thick and not mixing well add 1/3 cup of water and puree again.
Stir in sugar and put in the refrigerator for an hour or 2.
At this time you can adjust flavors if needed. You may need to add a bit more salt, cilantro, garlic powder or onion. Be careful with the onion!! As this salsa sits both the onion and garlic will intensify in flavor so I wouldn't add too much at this time.
Put back in the fridge and test flavors again in another hour.
This salsa gets better as the days goes by (if it lasts this long!)
**If you only have canned diced tomatoes those will work too! You will drain them like the whole tomatoes (reserving juices). But only use 1/2 cup of reserved juices initially. Add more (or water) if needed once you start to puree.
