The Best Healthy Turkey Chili

Chili is a delicious fall and winter staple in our house. I have a lot of chili recipes but this healthy turkey chili is easily our favorite. Full of protein and peppers and onions. It has the perfect blend of seasonings. If you don't like spice I'd cut the cayenne pepper. There are jalapenos but I don't find they add much spice (as long as you leave out ALL of the seeds!) - just lots of yummy flavor! You can add other vegetables, beans or meat (including bacon!) to this chili. This is an extremely versatile chili! You could also throw all of this in a slow cooker for the day (brown meat first then add all of the ingredients into the slow cooker).
  • 2 lbs ground turkey (I've also used ground beef and chicken and it was great!)
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 28 oz can crushed tomatoes, no salt added
  • 15 oz can diced tomatoes, no salt added (do not drain)
  • 3 tbsp tomato paste
  • ½ tsp hot sauce
  • 15 oz can kidney beans (or black beans), drain and rinsed, no salt added
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 jalapenos, chopped (no seeds if you do not want it spicy!)
  • 1.5 tsp sea salt
  • 1 pinch pepper
  • 1 packet stevia
  • 3 tbsp chili powder
  • 2 tsp oregano
  • ⅛ tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  1. Drizzle olive oil in a large pot. Saute onion and garlic until fragrant, about 3 minutes. Add ground turkey and cook until crumbled and brown. Drain excess liquid if needed (when I use turkey or chicken I never need to drain).
  2. Add all the rest of the ingredients and cook on medium/low for an hour.
