Pumpkin patch at Bates Nut Farm
I LOVE pumpkin patch time of year! It’s the start of fall and even better…. the start of the upcoming holiday season. Last week Charlie and I got motivated with the classic “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” and headed over to Bates Nut Farm Pumpkin Patch in San Diego. Click here for a list and links to other San Diego pumpkin patches.

Hayride at Bates Nut Farm
I love everything about the experience of a pumpkin patch. Especially at Bates Nut Farm. To start, it’s a beautiful drive to the farm which is set in the mountains. It’s also free to get in but you do pay to go home with pumpkins and participate in the activities but the cost is not bad at all (on the weekends you pay $5 for parking). They also have a really cute (and large!) store on the premises FULL of everything from specialty foods to Christmas decorations.

Activities include:
- Pumpkin patch of course
- Pony rides for kids under 80 lbs
- Petting Zoo
- Hay ride (pulled by a tractor)
- Mechanical bull
- Straw Maze
On the weekends there is additional entertainment including live bands, food vendors, rock wall and bounce house.
They are open every day of the week. Hours vary. GO EARLY! In October gets VERY hot by noon.

CAREFULLY picking out his pumpkin!
